How VentureScout uses multi-axis scoring to filter thousands of research papers into fundable opportunities.
The academic literature ecosystem produces tens of thousands of papers every year. Most of them never reach venture builders, leaving a huge gap between exciting discoveries and the people who can turn them into real products. That gap isn't accidental—it's a fundamental mismatch between how we find research and how we decide what to invest in.
We built the Quad-Axis Viability Matrix (QAVM) to tackle this. Instead of relying on a single score, we evaluate research across four orthogonal axes, each weighted equally:
Each axis gets a weight of 25%, so no single factor dominates the decision.
A single-score system tends to collapse nuance. A breakthrough scientific technique might score high on novelty but low on commercial readiness. A drug repurposing insight might have strong funding alignment but modest novelty. The QAVM keeps these dimensions visible, not averaged into obscurity.
Our scoring pipeline pulls from three layers:
Each dimension is scored on a 0–100 scale, then combined into a NOVA Score that reflects the weighted composite.
Early results are impressive: a 3–5× increase in discoverable opportunities compared to manual monitoring of the same source base, without increasing the human review workload. The filter surfaces signals that would otherwise stay invisible.
With warm regards,
The VentureScout Team
